Privacy policy
Nature Tripper (naturetripper.com) is run by Simon and Madeleine Pierce through our New Zealand company, Planet Ocean Marketing Limited. This page explains what information the site collects when you visit, what we do with it, and how to reach us about it. It covers Nature Tripper Magazine too.
The site has no visitor accounts, no comment sections and no advertising networks.
What we collect
Visitor statistics. We use Google Analytics, a service that measures visits to the site. It uses cookies (small files saved on your device) and records the pages you view, how you arrived, your browser and device, and your rough location. It recognises a returning browser by an identifier, not by your name, and it doesn’t give us names or email addresses. We use its reports to see which pages people read. Google keeps the detailed records for two months.
Your email address, if you sign up for the newsletter. Signing up is optional. The sign-up form takes you to Substack and passes it your email address. Substack runs Simon’s Field Notes, our newsletter shared with simonjpierce.com, and handles your address under its own privacy policy. You can unsubscribe using the link in each newsletter.
Emails you send us. If you email us, we use your message and address to reply.
Affiliate links
Some links on Nature Tripper are affiliate links: if you click one and buy or book something, the company may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. The company or its affiliate service may use cookies to link your purchase to our referral. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Our affiliate disclosure explains more about these links and our partnerships.
Other companies involved in showing you the site
- Cloudflare runs the computers that deliver this website, so it receives technical details such as your IP address (the internet address your connection uses).
- Google Fonts supplies the site’s fonts, so your browser fetches them from Google.
- YouTube videos appear on some pages. Loading the player connects your browser to YouTube, and playing a video may involve cookies.
These companies, and Substack, are based overseas, mostly in the United States, so your information is handled there.
Cookies
Google Analytics uses cookies on Nature Tripper. Video players and the sites you visit through our links may use their own. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings and still read everything here. Google also offers an optional browser tool that blocks Google Analytics in the browser where you install it.
Your information
You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we’ll respond to your request. If we can’t do what you ask, we’ll explain why. To leave the newsletter, use the unsubscribe link in any issue, or ask us and we’ll remove you.
We don’t sell or rent personal information.
If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled a request, you can complain to the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner.
Children
Nature Tripper is written for adults. If you think a child has sent us their details, email us and we’ll delete them.

We do our best to keep Nature Tripper accurate. Conditions, prices and operators change, so check the important details with the supplier before you book or buy. Unless another creator is named, the photographs are by Simon or Madeleine Pierce. For permission to reuse our photographs or writing, email us.
